EXCAVATORS

Long Reach Excavator

The long reach excavator or high reach excavator is a development of the excavator with an especially long boom arm, that is primarily used for demolition. Instead of excavating ditches, the long reach excavator is designed to reach the upper stories of buildings that are being demolished and pull down the structure in a controlled fashion. Today it has largely replaced the wrecking ball as the primary tool for demolition.

The most popular long reach excavators include:

CASE 210
The Case excavators are ideally suited to light and medium duty work, with excellent performance and reliability. They are available in 15 to 17.5 metre reach, weighing in around 23 tonnes.

VOLVO 360
This excavator is available in 20 and 22 metre reach configuration, weighing 40 tonnes with sufficient power to suit most applications. Fitted with dual- circuit hydraulic pipework enables the use of many dipper attachments.

CAT 330
Weighing 45 tonnes and capable of reaching out to 22 metres, the 330 is suitable for all applications. GPS underwater vision equipment is fitted as standard to assist in particular with dredging operations.

CAT 345
These excavators are available in 20, 22 and 24m reach arrangement, with the power to work effectively at maximum outreach and depth. Weighing between 53 and 62 tonnes, this is the ideal power to weight ratio for the machine to excavate a wide range of material. Designed and built by Caterpillar, they are purpose built for long reach applications.

CAT 375
This is one of the largest long reach excavators on the market. Weighing 90 tonnes with an outreach of 26 metres, the 375 can handle heavy duty work at maximum reach. GPS dig monitoring technology makes it particularly suited for quarrying, coastal construction work and marine dredging.

Dredging equipment
Modular pontoons with spudlegs, welfare facilities and safety handrails enable the excavators to be used on water. Tugs and barges can operate on both inland and coastal environments .

Attachments
Tilt and rotating quick hitch systems enable rapid fitment of numerous hydraulic attachments, including tree/weed cutters, hydraulic breakers, rotating rockwheels, grapples, grabs and compactor plates. Mini excavators can support the long reach machines in remote access situations, with slew and height restrictors fitted for safety as standard. An amphibious undercarriage can be fitted for use in deep silt and marshy conditions.
